RSS in Plain English

What is RSS?
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” — it’s a format for distributing and gathering content from sources across the Web, including newspapers, magazines and blogs.
Why RSS?
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in (example). You save time by not needing to visit each site individually rather the site content is delivered directly to you. Not only is it delivered to you, it notifies you when new content has been added.
If you haven’t yet felt the power of RSS have a quick look at this little well known video titled: RSS in Plain English. Also, next time you try to explain RSS to a friend or colleague just send them here for the 3.5 minute tutorial. Enjoy!
